Bihar increases salary, perks of Legislators

Bihar government today approved a proposal to increase salary by Rs 5,000 per month and perks including constituency allowance and loan for purchase of car of Legislators.
A proposal to this effect for legislators was approved at a meeting of state cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.
As per the proposal, the monthly salary of legislators would be raised to Rs 30,000 from the existing of Rs 25,000, Principal Secretary, Parliamentary Affairs Department Sudhir Kumar told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
The constituency allowance for them would be increased from Rs 25,000 per month to Rs 45,000.
The amount for car loan would be enhanced to Rs 10 lakh from the present Rs 8 lakh.
Among other perks, the daily allowance of legislators has been doubled to Rs 2,000 for staying in the state capital. The same for remaining within state has been raised to Rs 1,500 a day from Rs 1,000 at present and outside state to Rs 2,500 from Rs 2,000 currently, Kumar said.
Pension of former legislators has been increased to Rs 25,000 per month from Rs 15,000 at present, he said. There is also a provision for annual increase of pension by Rs 2,000 from Rs 1,000 at present, he added.
The cabinet also gave its nod to many proposals of various other departments like Education, Home, Rural Development and Health. It included opening family courts at Arwal, Sheikhpura, Banka and Kisanganj.
