Bihar police disapproves of SP holding UP Inspector by collar

Bihar police today disapproved of Patna City SP Shivdeep Lande's actions after TV reports showed the officer holding an Uttar Pradesh Police Inspector by the collar while arresting him in a bribery case.
"I have received a report from City SP Lande on details of the incident yesterday in which he was shown holding a UP Police Inspector by the collar while conducting a trap," Senior Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana told reporters on the sidelines of "Janata ke Darbar me Mukhya Mantri" programme.
"I am studying the report before sending it to state police headquarters," Rana said.
He, however, said prima facie what was shown in TV, the manner in which the "thing was handled did not seem to be proper".

"I have always been advising my subordinates to abide by rules and keep in mind that their acts did not violate human rights," Rana added.
Lande, who had covered himself with a stole while conducting the trap operation near Kotwali police station yesterday, was shown on TV holding an UP Police Crime Branch Inspector Sarva Chandra by the collar in connection with a complaint lodged by a mobile SIM card seller Pankaj Kumar that he was asking for bribe in relation with a case.

The Patna SSP said the UP Inspector was apprehended from Dak Bungalow area in central Patna and taken to Kotwali police station, but was let off by Lande as no money was recovered from him, nor any corroborative evidence was found.

Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi told reporters he has sought report on the incident which has appeared in newspapers.
Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Gupteshwar Pandey said they were waiting for a report to initiate further action.
He, however, said the way the case was handled was not right.
Asked if policemen were getting influenced by movies like "Singham", Pandey said it could not be ruled out.
"Movies have its imprint on all walks of lives, police is no exception," he added.
Patna SSP said that UP police has been told about the entire incident.
"There is no miscommunication between police of the two states over the incident," Rana said.
