"Platforms of both Bijwasan and Anand Vihar will be developed differently from the existing ones and arrival and departure of passengers will be segregated like airports, a first in Indian Railways," said a senior Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) official involved with the project.
Railways have formed IRSDC as a Special Purpose Vehicle to develop railway stations across India with the primary objective of augmenting and improving passenger amenities at stations.
Bijwasan station will be developed as a greenfield project with eight platforms at an estimated cost of Rs 450 crore.
Situated near Dwarka, the height of Bijwasan station building, will be upto 21 metres, said the IRSDC official.
There will be adequate parking facilities at both stations. While Bijwasan will have an underground parking lot to accommodate about 1000 cars, the one at Anand Vihar will have the capacity for 700 vehicles.
The concourse with upgraded facilities will be constructed at the upper level of platform to segregate arrival and departure of passengers, the official said.
Once completed, many trains from New Delhi station will be diverted to both these stations which will be equipped to handle about 2 lakh passengers each.
A key feature of the two stations will be connectivity the road and Metro network.
As per the plan, stations will be developed as multi-modal transport hub with easy connectivity to bus depot, taxi stand and Metro network so the passengers can change from one mode of transport to another without any hassle, he said.
