BJP today accused the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh of failing to ensure the security of women in Uttar Pradesh.
"The government, which has given the slogan of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' is itself failing in ensuring security of women in the state," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak alleged.
He said the recent incident, in which a young woman was hacked to death in Lucknow, was a glaring example of poor law and order situation in the state.
"Whether it is Badaun, Moradabad or Lucknow, women are being exploited and harassed," he said.
Instead of giving slogans, the government should take serious measures to ensure security of the women, he said.
"Incidents of rape, murder and harassment are on the rise in the state. Women no longer feel safe," he alleged.
The body of a young woman, a BA student and resident of Aminabad, in her early twenties, was found chopped in pieces in a sack near Chiraiyabagh village in SGPGI area below Shaheed Path in the state capital yesterday, according to police.
