The police today stopped a delegation of West Bengal BJP's women wing from visiting houses of two alleged rape victims in North Dinajpur district, saying it could lead to law and order problem.
The delegation, led by actress turned BJP MP Roopa Ganguly, was stopped near the minor adivasi girls' village in Karandighi police station area.
A group of Trinamool Congress workers also gathered at the spot protesting against the BJP leaders' visit.
Ganguly and other members of the delegation then returned to Raiganj, the district headquarter town, and met Superintendent of Police AK Bharat Rathore.
"We don't know what kind of law and order problem our visit would have caused," Ganguly told reporters after meeting the SP.
She said, "The SP told us seven persons were arrested in the case. But were they the real culprits?"
Ganguly alleged that someone punched her when they had been stopped by the police. However, she did not lodge any official complaint on this.
She claimed that civic police personnel would be taken from the ruling Trinamool Congress to heckle the opposition.
Meanwhile, test identification (TI) parade of the seven arrested persons in the rape case was conducted during the day, police said.
A rally taken out by Adivasis to protest against the rape of tribal girls turned violent on July 14, setting fire to buildings and damaging vehicles here.
