The BJP today said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Bihar@2025 campaign was in violation with the model code of conduct and the party will draw the attention of the Election Commission to the matter.
"Kumar had launched the Bihar@2025 campaign with public expenditure on June nine last in violation of the model code of conduct in place since announcement of the Legislative Council polls on 24 seats in Bihar by the EC on June four last," senior BJP leader Nandkishore Yadav said.
Yadav, who is the leader of Opposition in the Assembly, said that he will give a representation to the state election officials to order shelving off the campaign for the time being and take stern action against officials responsible for it.
As many as 400 trucks had left for various districts carrying publicity materials for Bihar@2025 campaign and the district magistrates were directed on June 13 last to monitor the mass contract programme in their respective districts, he said.
Describing the vision document released by the state government for Bihar@2025 campaign as a ploy to woo voters for the Legislative Council polls, Yadav said that the JD(U) government has sought to take electoral advantage of 50 per cent reservation given to women and weaker sections in local bodies.
He said the launch of a mass contact programme through Bihar@2025 campaign amounted to misuse of public funds and involvement of the official machinery with a brazen attempt to seek electoral advantage for benefit of a particular political party or parties while the model code is in force.
