BJP is considering fielding senior leader and former Union minister O Rajagopal as its candidate for Aruvikkara assembly bypoll on June 27.
Party sources said the state unit's core committee, which met here today, had zeroed on the name of Rajagopal to give a tough fight to the UDF and LDF candidates.
The decision has to be ratified by the party's national leadership.
While K S Sabrinath, younger son of former Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan, is the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate, M Vijaykumar, former Speaker and state minister is the CPI(M) led LDF candidate.
The bypoll was necessitated following the death of Karthikeyan, who had represented the constituency five times.
