Congress leader Sharmistha Mukherjee Friday said the BJP started a campaign to mislead the people by wrongly interpreting the Supreme Court verdict on Rafale deal.

The Congress is contemplating to lodge complaint against the central government for allegedly misleading and misinforming the apex court, on the basis of which judgment was formed, Mukherjee said here.

"The Rafale deal probe doesn't come under the purview of the Supreme Court. Only a Joint Parliamentary Committee can summon the Prime Minister and others to question about Rafale deal. So, a JPC must be formed," she told a news conference.

Mukherjee, also daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee, said the Congress also started a counter campaign to contest the claim of the BJP that the Supreme Court gave them clean chit on the issue.

The Congress leader said the court in its verdict cited a report submitted by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), but no such report was given to the panel headed by Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.

The central government has filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court saying the CAG report's mention was a "typographical error", Mukherjee said.
