In the national capital, the day temperature soared to 43.6 degree Celsius, the highest of the season so far, but it came down significantly following light showers in the evening.
The temperature recorded after 5.30 PM was 39.8 degrees Celsius, nearly four notches below the day's maximum. The minimum was 25.2 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal.
The weatherman has predicted that the sky will remain partly cloudy, and dust storms and thunderstorms may occur in some areas till tomorrow morning.
The local MeT office said day temperatures rose in Meerut division and changed a little in other parts of the state.
They were appreciably above normal in Faizabad division, above normal in Gorakhpur, Allahabad and Lucknow divisions, and were normal in the remaining divisions of the state.
The state's highest maximum temperature was 44.0 degrees Celsius recorded at Sultanpur. Rain/thundershowers may occur at isolated places in the state, according to a forecast.
In Rajasthan, blistering heatwave continued to sweep for the second day today, with Churu recording the highest maximum temperature at 44.6 degrees Celsius.
With the people remaining indoors due to intense heatwave conditions, roads wore a deserted look since midday in western districts of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Churu, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Kota. Temperatures in these district were between 43 and 44 degrees Celsius.
State capital Jaipur also experienced the hottest day of the season with mercury soaring to 44 degrees Celsius, about three degrees more than yesterday. Heatwave conditions would further aggravate in the state in the next 24 hours, according to a local MeT forecast.
