The youth was admitted to the hospital in Gandhipuram yesterday for respiratory problems but died after some time, resulting in relatives and friends allegedly damaging the furniture at the hospital and injuring a senior doctor in the melee, police said.
The private hospital has claimed that some relatives did not allow the staff to provide treatment and the youth was taken to the government hospital for further treatment, where he died.
The post-mortem was performed and the body handed over to the family, even as large number of police was deployed to prevent any untoward incidents, police said.
Meanwhile, members of the local IMA today petitioned City Police Commissioner, A Amalraj to inquire into the incident, where some persons allegedly ransacked the hospital and attacked doctors and staff, police said.
They sought stringent action against those involved.
