An 11 years old boy drowned in a lake in Kalwa area of the city this afternoon.
Two other children who were with him were rescued.
Santosh Kadam, chief of Regional Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation, said that Monu (11), Kunal (7) and Rohit (8) had come here from Vikroli in Mumbai and went to a lake near the Mafaltal Colony in the afternoon.
They apparently slipped and fell into the lake. Hearing their screams, some people who were nearby rescued Monu's friends, but he drowned.
Monu's body was sent to Chhatrapati Shivaji Civic Hospital for autopsy.
