The family of a 59-year-old man, declared brain dead after a road accident here, has donated his organs to save three needy patients.
The liver and eyes of V P Surendran, who suffered head injury after he was knocked down by a two-wheeler while crossing a road near his house here on September 17, were harvested and transplanted to three patients.
A release from Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), where the organs were harvested, said Manoj, son of Surendran, expressed his willingness to donate his father's organs after he was declared brain dead yesterday.
The liver was transplanted in a 60-year-old man, who has been suffering from acute liver ailment for the past two years while eyes were donated to two different patients in Comtrust Eye Hospital.
Surendran was running a restaurant at Chevayoor and also actively involved in many social organisations, the release said.
