BSF nabs 4 Bangladeshis while smuggling cattle along border in WB

Four Bangladeshi men have been apprehended and over 200 cattle heads seized by the Border Security Force (BSF) during an anti-smuggling operation along the India-Bangladesh international border area on Thursday, the force said.

The apprehensions were made as part of multiple operations that were carried out in the districts of Malda, Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas and Nadia that fall under the jurisdiction of the border guarding forces' south Bengal frontier, it said.

Mohammed Saidul, Mohammed Barquat Ali Babu and Senarul Sheikh of Chapai Nawabganj district and Mohammed Hamim of Rajshashi district of Bangaldesh were nabbed by the BSF men when they were allegedly smuggling cattle from the Indian side to the Bangladeshi side.

A locally-made engine powered boat of the alleged smugglers was also seized, the BSF said.

A total of 270 cattle has been seized during the operation that took place on the intervening night of July 17-18 along the border areas in West Bengal, including in riverine patches, the force said.

The four Bangladeshi men and the cattle have been handed over to the local police, it said.
