Budget: allocation for Urban Development Ministry up by 39 pc

The allocation for the Urban Development Ministry in the Union budget has gone up by 39 per cent to Rs 21,100 crore for 2016-17 from Rs 15,160 crore in 2015-16.
The budget, presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Parliament, allocated Rs 200 crore for the Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana.
Swachh Bharat Mission in urban areas has been allocated Rs 2,300 crore, while Smart City Mission got an allocation of Rs 3,205 crore.
Over Rs 4,090 crore was earmarked for the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation which aims at providing basic services, including water supply, sewerage, urban transport and building of amenities in cities to improve quality of life.
About Rs 10,000 crore has been marked for metro projects -- Rs 5,400 crore for Delhi Metro, Rs 667.17 crore for Bengaluru Metro, Rs 957 crore for Chennai, Rs 600 crore for Mumbai, Rs 450 crore for Kochi, Rs 660 crore for Ahmedabad, Rs 410 crore for Lucknow and Rs 603 crore for Nagpur metro.
