Petitioner S Rajendran of Karur District submitted that election to the Aravakurichi constituency was cancelled during the assembly polls in May last due to large scale corrupt practices allegedly adopted by then candidates Balaji and K C Palanisamy of DMK.
The Election Commission in its order May 14 came to an irresistible conclusion that all the moneys seized and gifts recovered in the constituency were meant for distribution to electors in the form of illegal inducement.
The petitioner said that he made a representation on October 18 to the EC and other Electoral Officials to reject the nomination of the two candidates.
The petition is likely to come up for hearing tomorrow.
Along with Aravakurichi, EC had cancelled polls in Thanjavur constituency also in May last due to corrupt practices.
