"The state housing board has received the award for its affordable housing projects during a function held yesterday in Delhi," a government official said today.

Chhattisgarh Housing Board Chairman Subhash Rao and its Commissioner Sonmoni Borah received the award from Union Minister for Water Resources Harish Rawat and MP Balbir Punj.

Chief Minister Raman Singh congratulated the board and said the housing revolution in the state has achieved new heights.

"The housing board has constructed 52,770 houses with basic facilities at the cost of Rs 3,000 crore in the last 8 years under various housing schemes such as Atal Awas Yojana, Deendayal Awas Yojana, Kushabhau Thakre Awas Yojana and general housing scheme, and provided houses to the people at reasonable rates," the official said.

"Atal Vihar Yojana has been started to construct one lakh houses in all the districts of the state. Out of the total houses constructed, 85 per cent of the houses were meant for economically weaker sections and lower income groups," the official added.

One lakh houses having eco-friendly features will be constructed under Atal Vihar Yojana during the next three years at an estimated cost of Rs 11,000 crore.

EPC World, a monthly publication on infrastructure and construction, has been awarding companies and individuals for exceptional contribution in infrastructure and construction sector for the last two years.

The jury, along with knowledge partner Ernst and Young, have selected the housing board for the award in the third edition of EPC World Awards.
