Cabinet increases allocation for Hyd-Kar region to Rs 1,000 cr

Karnataka Cabinet today decided to increase special budgetary provision made for the development of backward Hyderabad-Karnataka region from Rs 600 crore to Rs 1000 crore.
"We have taken several decisions related to Hyderabad-Karnataka region; ....In this year's budget we had made Rs 600 crore special provision for the development of Hyderabad-Karnataka region. Today the cabinet has increased it from Rs 600 crore to Rs 1000 crore," Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters here after a cabinet meeting.
He said the state government has brought out a book on steps taken by it after a special status to Hyderabad-Karnataka region was granted by bringing an amendment the Constitution to include it under Article 371(J).
Successive state governments have followed the tradition of having cabinet meeting at Kalaburagi known as the heart of Hyderabad-Karnataka region or Kalyana Karnataka region which was first started by Gundu Rao government in 1981. It was sixth such meeting held in the city today.
The cabinet also decided to identify vacant positions in government departments in the region by December 2014, and complete appointment procedures to fill them by June 2015.
It has also decided to set up libraries in the select 250 village panchayats of the region with the help of Rs 50 crore grant from the Hyderabad-Karnataka Region Development Board, Chief Minister said.
The cabinet also provided administrative approval for 100 bed taluk hospital at Sedam in Kalburgi district at an estimated cost of Rs 696.50 lakhs, he said.
It has also decided to give 2234 sq ft plot free of cost within the limits of Gulbarga Urban Development Authority to Mallamma, wife of the slain police office Mallikarjuna Bande.
Bande a Sub-Inspector with Station Bazar police station was killed in an encounter with a notorious criminal early this year.
