Director Dinesh P Bhosle said that his upcoming film "Calapor", starring actress Rituparna Sengupta, deals with the issue of prions reforms in a sensitive way.
The film, releasing on August 2, revolves around a mother trying to come to terms with her past.
A special screening of the film was today attended by Kiran Bedi, Sengupta, producer A Durga Prasad and Bhosle.
"This film is based on the prisoners, and cultural activities in prison as I always wanted to make a film on such issue and this is why I first showed it to Kiran Bedi as she is the one who initiated such activities and seen the life of prisoners very closely," Bhosle said.
Bedi said she found the film very engaging and true to reality. She said the only other film that she could recall on the topic was V Shantaram's black and white classic "Do Aankhein Baarrah Hath".
When asked whether politicians can be reformed, Bedi said, "Hamaare desh mein na ek aur jail chahitye...Sirf aur sirf politicians ke liye..Ab .Ab uski sakht zaroorat hai kyunki jis waqt yeh corruption mein bari bari sab pakde jaayenge na...Uske liye toh wakai me bohot badi jail chahiye hogi (We need a separate jail for corrupt politicians, a big one in our country."
Sengupta said she agreed to do the film because of the strong message attached to it.
"I always feel that a movie should have some meaning, some message which I can identify with. It should be closer to reality so that the audience can connect with the story," Sengupta said.
