The high court had resumed normal work yesterday after a two-week summer vacation.
A section of lawyers did not attend court today following a resolution by the High Court Bar Association not to attend court owing to the weather.
"We took a resolution that lawyers will not attend court this week owing to the oppressively hot and humid conditions," Calcutta High Court Bar Association president Suranjan Dasgupta said.
"We will review the situation on Monday next and take a decision on attending court considering the weather conditions then," Dasgupta said.
"As it is, there is shortage of judges and many matters cannot be taken up for hearing.
"Litigants are suffering," Justice Dutta said and urged senior lawyers to take the initiative so that all advocates attend court.
