The film focuses on five girls, who hail from different regions of India, and have been selected to pose for the country's popular annual calendar.
The movie shows one of the girls hailing from Lahore, Pakistan. She is seen in the promo saying, "Pakistani girls also do bold things like others and sometimes more than others."
The trailer shows people protesting against the working of the Pakistani model in India.
Bhandarkar, 47, took to Twitter to clarify that the movie does not have anything "anti-Pakistan" and he would pray the country's censor board gives a green signal to the film.
"We are told #CalendarGirls is facing problems for a release in Pakistan because of a dialogue the local distributors saw in the trailer...
"As somebody who's always tackled hard-hitting subjects sensitively, I earnestly request all distributors in Pak to kindly watch the film...," he tweeted.
"I assure one & all that #CalendarGirls is NOT anti-Pak & WON'T hurt any sentiments. Sincerely pray Censor there watches & gives a go-ahead."
"Calendar Girls" is set to hit theatres on September 25. It will clash at the box office with stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma's Bollywood debut "Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon".
