Penned by Josh Safran of "Quantico" fame, the potential series centres on a disparate group of interconnected people in contemporary Los Angeles through the lens of the music that defines who they are.
Hernandez will play Nellie, whose job in admissions at an arts college and relationship with an up-and-coming musician have derailed her own dreams of becoming an artist, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The 29-year-old actor has films "La La Land" and "Alien: Covenant" to her credits.
The cast also includes actor Madeleine Stowe as Margot, who will appear in the series as a regular.
