Chattopadhyay today sentenced a 65-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl on April 23.
The FIR was lodged with Bamangola police station by the victim's mother on April 24 and the accused was arrested the same day.
The accused was chargesheeted in four days and, after deposition of eight witnesses, the judge found him guilty yesterday, 23 days after he was arrested.
Chattopadhyay pronounced the quantum of punishment during the day.
The accused's son, who was charged with threatening the family of the victim, was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
