Case registered against Leader of Opp in MP Assembly

A local court today registered a case against Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Ajay Singh in a defamation suit filed against him by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for allegedly making derogatory statements against his wife.
"After taking cognisance of the facts in the case, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Pankaj Maheshwari registered a case against Ajay and issued summons against him in this regard," Chouhan's advocate Dipesh Joshi told reporters.
Chouhan and his wife Sadhna had filed the defamation case against Singh for allegedly making the derogatory statements during a party rally in Khargone and later in Sagar.

Singh while making corruption accusations against the couple, had reportedly made the comments at the rally at Khargone on June 4 and Sagar on June 9.
The case was filed under sections 499 and 500 of the IPC, he said.
"The court found prima facie evidence against Singh in the case and therefore registered a case in this regard," he said.

The court has directed Singh to appear in the court on November 11.
The Chouhan couple said that the baseless allegations were damaging as they were published in widely circulated dailies in the state.
Earlier, Chouhan had issued a legal notice to Singh, demanding unconditional apology in the matter but he did not respond to it.
