At a time when the opposition Congress leaders have upped their ante demanding to bring more and more BJD leaders under the purview of police investigation for their alleged links with the gangster Dhalasamant brothers, the Commissionerate police today slapped yet another extortion case against the arrested brothers.
Based on a written complaint of a works contractor, the Chauliaganj police have registered a case against the D-brothers and one of his associates - Bharat Bhusan Swain, said city DCP Sanjiv Arora.
With this, the number of cases registered against the brothers - Sushant and Sushil - went up to 17 since their arrest on January 29 last.
Meanwhile, the Cuttack district administration is now in a tizzy on how to serve a show-cause notice on Sushil Dhalasamant, president of the now-defunct social organisation Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangha, who is now lodged in a Balasore jail.
On the basis of an adverse police report that the members of the Sangha were involved in criminal activities and the organisation was functioning in violation of the purpose for which it was established, the Cuttack ADM in his capacity as additional registration officer under Societies Registration Act, had issued a notice to Sushil to show cause by April 4 as to why his organisation's registration would not be cancelled.
Since the Yuvak Sangha has now ceased to function and the executive body has been dissolved, the ADM's notice was pasted on the door of its sealed office located at CDA under Markat Nagar police station.
"We have not yet received any reply to the show-cause notice," said Cuttack ADM Laxmikant Mohanty adding the administration was now looking for alternative options to serve the notice in person.
