A case has been registered against a Tamil TV news channel and others including an MLA in connection with the fracas that broke out during a debate organised by it here recently.
Police today said cases have been registered against 'Puthiya Thalaimurai' channel and its reporter, who had booked a private college for holding the debate, MLA U Thaniyarasu and film director Ameer.
The channel and its reporter have been charged under IPC sections 153(A) (promoting enmity between different groups), 505 (A) (statements conducing to public mischief) and section 3(1) of Tamil Nadu Property Prevention of Damage and Loss Act, they said.
Ameer and Thaniyarasu have been booked under IPC sections 153 (A) and 505.
The channel had organised the 'Round Table debate on people's right to protest,' on Friday last, in which leaders of various political parties took part.
Certain remarks by Ameer had led to a few among the audience, including BJP and Hindu Munnani workers, raising objections, leading to brief disruption of the debate.
Thaniyarasu had backed the views of the film director.
Political parties and media organisations today condemned the registration of cases and sought their withdrawal.
