Cases were registered against the sugar mill owners of Mansurpur, Khatoli and Titawi under section 3/7 of the Essential Commodities Act yesterday.
District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma told mediapersons here today that the step has been taken against the mill owners for not starting crushing work despite the government's directive.
He said that the state government has announced support prices of sugarcane and the mill owners would be arrested soon.
Meanwhile, Bhartiya Kisan Union led by Naresh Tikait today started an indefinite dharna outside the district magistrate's office to press their demand of starting sugar mills and payment to the farmers.
