A case was registered on a complaint from a resident of Sangrur in Punjab who alleged that the branch manager of State Bank of Patiala at Cheema in Punjab demanded a bribe of Rs 6.5 lakh from him for liquidating a loan and returning the documents of the land which was mortgaged with the bank, a CBI spokesperson said here today.
The official said CBI laid a trap and the bank manager was caught red-handed while accepting Rs one lakh as first installment of the bribe.
The spokesperson said the case was registered on the basis of a complaint by the coal trader who alleged that the project officer and sales manager had demanded illegal gratification of Rs 20,000 for providing him a coal stock against a delivery order issued by CCL.
"CBI laid a trap and caught the project officer and sales manager red-handed while they were ccepting the bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant," it said.
