CBI arrests DSP, SI at Chandigarh for alleged bribery

CBI has arrested a Deputy Superintendent of Police and a Sub-Inspector of the Economic Offences Wing at Chandigarh in connection with an alleged bribery case of Rs 40 lakh.
CBI sources said that RC Meena, Deputy Superintendent of Police, EOW, UT Police, Chandigarh, and Surinder Kumar, Sub- Inspector, were arrested for alleged corruption along with two private persons, Sanjay Dahuja and Aman Grover.
"A case was registered under section 120-B of IPC and Section 8 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, on a complaint in which it was alleged that two businessmen of Chandigarh had entered into criminal conspiracy and demanded a bribe of Rs 40 lakh from the complainant on behalf of DSP and a Sub-Inspector of EOW... For reaching a compromise for not arresting parents and brother of the complainant against whom a case of fraud was under investigation in EOW, Chandigarh," a CBI spokesperson said here.
CBI sleuths laid a trap and the two businessmen were caught red-handed while accepting Rs 40 lakh from the complainant to be paid to the said police officials, the spokesperson said.
"The DSP and SI of EOW were also apprehended on the basis of evidence which had come to light during the investigation. Searches were conducted at the official and residential premises of the accused persons, which led to the recovery of certain documents," she added.
