CBI arrests Dy I-T Commissioner

CBI today arrested a Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax and a former director of State Bank of Patiala from Ludhiana for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs six lakh from a businessman.
CBI sources said former State Bank of Patiala Director Ashwani Kumar Gupta, who is also a Chartered Accountant, was arrested along with Income Tax department Deputy Commissioner P K Bahattacharya who was allegedly caught red handed while accepting bribe in return for settling a tax returns issue of the businessman.
The sources said residences of both the accused were searched in Jalandhar and documents, laptops and computer hard drives seized by the agency.
The searches started early morning at Gupta's residence in Green Park.
The sources said Gupta was allegedly acting as a middleman for Bhattacharya who had demanded Rs six lakh for settling a tax returns issue of the businessman.
