A railway officer has been arrested by CBI for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a widow of his colleague for processing her matter for her appointment on compassionate ground.
The Chief Staff and Welfare Inspector of East Central Railway, Dhanbad (Jharkhand), was apprehended while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant, a CBI spokesperson said.
The officer had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 for processing her matter and related medical tests for her appointment as a clerk in the railway on compassionate ground following demise of her husband in September last year.
Rs 25,000 was the part payment, which was agreed to be paid, when the agency laid the trap and arrested the Inspector, the spokesperson said.
