Satish Babusenan, the co-director of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) competition film "Chaayam Poosiya Veedu", feels cinema is an artistic medium and says the Censor Board does not have the right to infringe on an artiste's freedom of expression.
The director, who has made the film alongside Santosh, lauded the IFFK for not requiring a censorship certificate for screening, even the Goa-based International Film Festival of India demanded one.
"This will probably be the first and last time that our movie will be screened," said Santosh of the film, which has three nude scenes.
"'Chaayam Poosiya Veedu' depicts the inner quest of a person. It is the thematic representation of how the inner self is connected to the exterior. However, the movie has not reached the audience due to censorship issues," Babusenan said.
"The movie is the best thing that happened in my life," said actor Akram, who plays a seemingly crazy young man.
Actress Neha Mahajan said that she could explore herself as an actor in the movie, which celebrates womanhood.
"For fear of losing their money, the producers do not take the pains to go to court or any appellate if the Censor Board files a case against them. If the producers stay united in going against the Censor Board, they will stop their rigidity," said Santosh, who suggested that online marketing might be the way forward.
Chalachithra Academy Chairman T Rajeevnath released K T Shahul Hameed's book on Malayalam films, "Thaarangal Vediyeetu Veena Raathri" by handing over a copy to director and former Chalachithra Academy Chairman T K Rajeev Kumar, at the press meet.
