Centre committed to environment, development: Javadekar

The Centre will examine the environmental issues related to public interest in Maharashtra with a "due diligence", Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said today.
The Centre's assurance came after the Maharashtra government made a presentation on the issue before Javadekar.
"The Environment Minister said the Centre will examine the issues of environment related to public interest in Maharashtra with due diligence as it is committed to environment and development," an official release said today.
Earlier, Javadekar held a high-level meeting with state Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Forests Minister Patangrao Kadam, Cooperation Minister Harshavardhan Patil and high officials here.

A delegation comprising BJP leaders led by the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Vinod Tawde also met Javadekar and apprised him on the environmental issues in Konkan and Mumbai regions, the statement said.
Javadekar assured the delegation that his ministry would take a decision on the issue of ecologically sensitive areas after taking all the stake holders on board in all the states involved, according to the release.
