The Centre has taken up for discussion regarding revival of sick Hindustan Photo Films at Udhagamandalam in Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu, Minister of state for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Pon Radhakrishnan today said.
Replying to a specific question that there was no focused Central projects in Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan said his ministry has taken up the issue of the possible revival of HPF, which was already on the verge of closure.
Moreover, the Vishakapatnam-Chennai Industrial corridor would be extended upto Kanyakumari, Radhakrishnan, here to participate in a conference organised by CII, said.
To a question on bypolls held for various local bodies in the state yesterday, Radhakrishnan claimed people have lost confidence in the polls, considering the "functioning and irregularities" by the ruling AIADMK.
People were dissatisfied with the Government, which was one of the major reasons for the low turnout in polls, he claimed. However, he expressed hope that the counting would be free and fair.
Earlier, addressing a conference on 'Best maintenance practices--Zero Breakdown and Least Cost maintenance,' the minister said loss of production time and product quality that resulted from poor or inadequate maintenance management has had a dramatic impact on the ability to compete with goods from developed countries
Bad maintenance practices led to loss in production and unscheduled shutdown in plants and installations and more importantly, posed severe safety hazards, he said.
However, technological development have provided means to reduce or eliminate unnecessary repairs, prevent catastrophic machine failures, reduce negative impact of maintenance costs on profitability of manufacturing and production plants, Radhakrishnan pointed out.
