"There is stress in the steel industry but the Centre is serious to set up the plant in Jharkhand with NMDC in a joint venture," Tomar said at a press conference here.
There are steel mills in Karnataka with NMDC, in Odisha with RINL and in Chhatisgarh with SAIL, he said.
The union minister said that the consumption of steel per person is 225 kg in the world, while in India it is only 60 kg and the demand for it will increase with the infrastructure development vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"India's dignity rose abroad," he said and cited examples like 177 countries celebrating Yoga Day and accepting alternative energy sources.
Tomar, who was here along with Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Krishan Pal and BJP's National Secretary H Raja, said under the MUDRA Yojana 3.41 crore people were benefited with disbursal of Rs 1.41 crore of loan.
