Aimed at generating more revenues, the Chennai Port Trust has proposed to set up a horizontal parking yard at its facility, instead of a multi-level car parking.
The decision to set up a horizontal parking yard at its facility is in the backdrop of automobile manufacturers suggestion that horizontal car parking yielded better results world over, Chennai Port Trust Ltd Chairman Atulya Misra said here, recently.
"We have gone for a multilevel car parking tender. But, the car manufacturers had an interaction with us. They said, world over horizontal parking alone is more successful", he said.
Based upon the auto companies interaction, he said, "(we understood that) if horizontal parking is provided they (automakers) will be more interested in this project".
Commenting about it, Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan said there was no restriction on a port to develop on its own way, provided the Port shows profits to the Ministry.
"Chennai Port (Trust) has got enough potential to develop itself. Stage by stage it is working...," he had said earlier.
