Chhattisgarh Assembly was today adjourned for the day after paying tribute to late former President APJ Abdul Kalam and other eminent persons who passed away recently.
As the House assembled for the winter session, Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal made obituary reference of Kalam, ex-MP Parasram Bhardwaj, former state minister Ganguram Baghel and MLA in erstwhile Madhya Pradesh, Pyarelal Salaam who all have died recently.
Highlighting the achievements and contributions made by Kalam, Agrawal said the country and the world have lost a great scientist, educationist, thinker, writer, visionary and ideal of youths in him.
Chief Minister Raman Singh said, "Kalam was born in an ordinary family, but his hard work made him an extraordinary man who later went on to occupy the highest constitutional position in the country".
Recalling Kalam's address to the state Assembly in 2004, the CM said that he was having a special attachment with Chhattisgarh, particularly Bastar.
He had visited the State several times and even interacted with students, Singh said.
The CM also paid tribute to veteran VHP leader Ashok Singhal.
Subsequently, the Leader of Opposition, TS Singhdeo paid tribute to the departed leaders, and also to farmers who have committed suicide in various parts of the state.
The tributes were also paid by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ajay Chandrakar, state unit Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel and members of the BJP and the Congress.
The House observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed leaders before it was adjourned.
