Chief pontiff of Sri Ranganathaswamy temple passes away

: The chief pontiff of Sri Ranganathaswamy temple, Sri Ranga Narayana Jeeyar died today after prolonged illness at a private hospital here, temple officials said.

He was 84.

Narayana Jeeyar had both lung and heart problems and had been admitted to hospital some time ago, the officials said.

He had disciples all over India and Nepal.

He became the 50th jeeyar of the Srirangam temple in 1984.
