S Chikkarangappa fired the day's best card of seven-under 65 to leapfrog to tied eighth place along side Gaganjeet Bhullar at the end of the delayed second round of the weather-shortened Yeangder Tournament Players Championship (TPC) here today.
Chikka was one of the four players who shot 65 in the second round.
Both Bhullar (69) and Chikka are at six-under 136 and five shots behind the Filipino Miguel Tabuena (68-65).
The only two other Indians made the cut -- Rahil Gangjee (74-69) and Himmat Rai (74-70).
Khalin Joshi, who had a fine 68 in first round, missed the cut after shooting 77 in second round and others missing out were Rashid Khan (73-73), Angad Cheema (71-76), Shubhankar Sharma (73-76) and Chiragh Kumar (75-75).
Chikka opened in a stunning fashion with birdies on his first four holes and fifth followed by sixth. He turned in five-under and then birdied the 11th, 17th and 18th and his lone bogey of the day came on 15th.
Bhullar, making a comeback from injury, had two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine and then had three birdies against no bogeys on the back nine.
Tabuena is on track to erase last year's heartbreak after grabbing a two-shot lead today.
Tabuena, who was defeated by Prom Meesawat on the second play-off hole last year, fired a flawless seven-under-par 65 to lead on 11-under-par 133 in the USD 500,000 Asian Tour tournament, which has been reduced to 54 holes due to bad weather yesterday.
Rookie Natipong Srithong of Thailand also shot a 65 to tie for second place alongside home favourite Lin Wen-tang (68) of Chinese Taipei at the Linkou International Golf and Country Club.
Niall Turner of Ireland bounced back from a back injury to share fourth place with Lien Lu-sen of Chinese Taipei and Shaun Norris of South Africa as they posted a 66, 65 and 68, respectively for a 136 total.
The cut was set on even-par 144 with a total of 71 players qualifying for the final round.
