'Child sale racket': Court sends nun to 4-day police remand

Sister Konsalia and Anima Indwar, arrested in connection with the alleged "sale" of babies by Nirmal Hriday, a shelter home run by the Mother Teresa-founded Missionaries of Charity, were sent to a four-day police custody by a court here today.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Shwaymbhu sent the two to police custody.

A senior police officer said they took Sister Konsalia and Indwar into remand for further interrogation.

"We have taken them into remand for four days for questioning," the officer said.

Sister Konsalia was arrested on July 5 for allegedly "selling" a child born to a minor inmate of the home to a couple from Uttar Pradesh.

Indwar was arrested on July 4.

Both of them were in judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the police said the fourth child allegedly "sold" by the home was yet to be traced.

The third of the four children allegedly "sold" by the shelter home, who was rescued by the police from Simdega on Wednesday, was handed over to his adoptive parents yesterday.
