The raid was conducted at a flat in the Bansdroni area in the southern parts of the city. The flat is owned by an acquaintance of MAV Raju, the husband of Ghosh, a senior CID official told PTI.
''The key to the flat was reportedly with Raju and the cash was kept there by Ghosh's security guard, Sujit Mondal,'' he said.
Though the flat owner was present during the raid, the CID sleuths did not arrest him, the official said, adding that the raid was videographed.
''We are talking to him (flat owner) and trying to find out from where did he get the money,'' he said.
The money, which was kept in a bag, was mostly in the new Rs 500 notes.
CID sources said gold ornaments weighing 100 tolas and gold coins were seized from two lockers of a nationalised bank belonging to Ghosh yesterday.
The CID had earlier arrested police inspector Subhankar De and sub-inspector Chitta Pal in the case. Pal was the officer in-charge of the Ghatal police station in West Midnapore district and De was the circle inspector there.
Gold jewellery, documents and a large amount of cash were seized from the residences of Ghosh.
The raid was carried out following a court order, after a person complained that some police personnel had forcefully taken money from him last year, the official said.
Ghosh, who was the West Midnapore superintendent of police, had resigned from service after she was transferred to a less significant post -- the commandant of the third battalion of the state armed police -- in late December last year. She had resigned from service two days later.
