CISF chief O P Singh today conducted a surprise check and took a ride in the Delhi metro in the wake of heightened vigil at public places ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
The Director General (DG) of the paramilitary force, entrusted to secure the metro network, travelled between Central Secretariat and JLN stadium stations in the evening.
These two stations have the largest inter-station distance (about 3.5km) on the network.
Singh, who reached unannounced, inspected the deployment of the force at the two stations and the anti-sabotage and counter-terror mechanisms in place there.
A senior CISF officer said the DG also sought information about the CCTV surveillance and functioning of other gadgets at the two stations.
The DG, the officer said, also asked the CISF officials to give special emphasis on security drills but ensure that no passenger experienced any hassles.
The rapid rail network caters to over 25 lakh commuters per day, on an average.
The officer said the DG was also briefed about the patrolling and intelligence paraphernalia of the force deployed to secure over 150 stations in the National Capital Region that includes Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurgaon.
The security apparatus at Delhi Metro, apart from other vital facilities, has been put on alert in the wake of the Independence day celebrations in the national capital region.
