CISF to engage commuters to enhance security at Delhi Metro

A novel method to politely enforce discipline amongst commuters has been initiated in the Delhi Metro by the CISF as part of a plan to enhance the overall security arrangements at the rapid rail transport system.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) guards the Metro network which runs across the national capital and NCR regions of Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad.
Under a pilot-project, the CISF has deputed a select group of its personnel and officers who have started to fan across eight select Metro stations talking to commuters about following few norms mandated for the security of passengers like personal frisking and observance of rules on platforms.

"We have begun a unique mix of enforcing the rules and facilitating the passenger for a smooth travel at the Delhi Metro. We have chosen eight Metro stations for a test period time where our personnel will urge commuters to follow rules for their own safety," CISF DG Arvind Ranjan told PTI.
Passengers at eight stations - Dwarka Sector 8, 12, 13 and 14, Yamuna Bank, Civil Lines, Vidhan Sabha and Race Course - will be asked to politely cooperate with the CISF personnel frisking them and urged to follow some routine courtsey and safety drills like standing behind the yellow line when the train rolls in the station and allowing passengers to deboard first before hopping in.

The DG, who has initiated a host of policies soon after taking over the top post of the force last year in December, said the initiative is also to enable the security personnel better profile a suspicious traveller without putting in trouble the rule-abiding commuters.
"We just want to bring an order in the Metro stations as these are places where we witness a heavy footfall and movement of people. Once things are chaos free, we will be able to provide a better sense of security to the passengers," Ranjan said.
On the feedback of the pilot exercise, CISF will start this project at other major stations which form the nerve centre of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation operations.
