A civet cat looking for pigeons living in the nooks and corners of the century old Calcutta High Court affected work in a courtroom for an hour and brought forest officials scrambling with nets and lights.
Court officials heard strange noises in the false ceiling of Court number 14 on the second floor of the high court building when it was opened at around 10:00 am yesterday.
When the court officials tried a bit of prodding to find the source of the noise, the civet cat broke through the false ceiling and landed on the visitors' bench.
The officials informed Justice Prasenjit Mondal, who presides over court no 14, as it was not possible to begin normal court proceedings with the civet cat prowling around.
Forest department officials who were informed by the high court administration, arrived with lights, nets and other paraphernalia and were able to trap it.
The feline intruder was caught after powerful lights were trained on its eyes temporarily blinding it.
Though the animal was carted away, the pungent odour associated with civet cats, continued to pervade the court room.
