The three municipal corporations in the city have planned an ambitious sanitation drive from Oct. 2 which will see cleaning and refurbishing work being carried out in the national capital, officials said today.
The three BJP-led civic bodies, NDMC, SDMC and EDMC -- respectively the north, south and east Delhi municipal corporations -- are already running a 100-day cleanliness drive which started last month.
"We have major plans for this cleanliness drive. We will have floral letter designs for our signboards, especially in Lutyens' Delhi. We will be repairing roads and painting grilles and fences, among others," SDMC Public Relations Officer Mukesh Yadav told PTI.
Yadav said the drive would include sending out a message to the people to co-operate with the civic body in order to keep the city clean.
"We will also be putting up floral designs, about 10-15, in each identified location. We are also partnering with educational institutions, market associations and resident welfare associations (RWAs) and asking them to join the drive," he said.
"We will also use awareness posters featuring our old characters like 'SuSu Kumar', 'ThuThu Kumar', among others, which send out a message against littering. A radio campaign is also in the pipeline," he added.
NDMC and EDMC are also planning similar campaigns in the areas falling under their jurisdiction from Oct. 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
"We will be running campaigns from Oct. 2 which will see us clearing garbage, refurbishing parks and streets in both north and east Delhi," said Yogendra Singh Mann, Director (Press and Information) for both NDMC and EDMC.
"The drive would also include removal of encroachments as and when we find it," he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already issued a clarion call for his 'Swachchh Bharat' or 'Clean India Mission' and Delhi government, too, has planned a drive in this regard from October 2.
