Civil society in Kashmir stages rally against drug scam

The members of the civil society of Kashmir today staged a peaceful protest rally here demanding stern action against those involved in the spurious drug scam in the state.
Hundreds of protesters marched from the municipal park near General Post Office to Press enclave at Partap Park in the heart of the city.
The decision to hold the protest rally was taken in a round table conference organised by Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) on April 16 here against the spurious drug scam to press for severe action against the culprits.
"We demand a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the scam," chairperson of KCSDS Hamida Nayeem told reporters here.

Rejecting the probe committee set up by the government, she said "how can we expect the committee to be fair in its investigation as those heading it are involved in the scam."
The government should also immediately stop the supply and sale of such drugs, Nayeem said.
