Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today asked the Health and Medical Education Department to ensure adequate availability of quality medicine in hospitals so that patients don't have to run pillar to post.
She also asked for maintaining the quality and standards of medicine provided to patients.
Chairing the board of directors meeting of J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (MSCL) today, she impressed upon the functionaries of the corporation to minimise the gap between the on-time requirement of medicines at the hospital counter and the supply delivered from their end, an official spokesman said.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Baghat and Minister of State for Health and Medical Education, Asiea Naqash were also present in the meeting.
Mehbooba, who is also the chairperson of the corporation, asked the corporation management to ensure complaints of non- availability drugs or spurious drugs do not come and supplies are optimally tested before use by patients.
On the directions of the Chief Minister, the Board decided that from April 2017 all the hospital supplies would be rooted through J&K MSCL only.
She also stressed on using generic names for the medicine being prescribed at the hospitals.
Mehbooba also reviewed the ware housing and storage capacity of the corporation at provincial and districts levels and directed that Deputy Commissioners in respective districts be asked to help the corporation in having adequate storage facility for drugs in their areas.
She also asked the Corporation to ensure separate branding of drug supplies by it so that the same is not misused or sold in the market.
