With the Rajasthan High Court striking down the 5 per cent quota for Gurjars and other castes, the Akhil Bhartiya Gurjar Arakshan Sangharh Samiti today held Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje responsible for the setback and announced that it would stage a dharna in Delhi on January 15.
Samiti president Ramveer Singh Bidhuri said it was because of "negligence" of the chief minister that the reservation act was not included in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution which led to the decision of the high court.
"BJP in its manifesto for the 2013 assembly election had promised statutory action to get the reservation included in the 9th Schedule but no concrete action was taken by the government in the last three years which is a betrayal with the community," Bidhuri told reporters here.
"Thousands of Gujjar community people from all over the country will participate in the dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on January 15 and a memorandum will be given to the chief minister demanding that the state government fulfil its promise to include the reservation in the 9th Schedule," he said.
The Rajasthan High Court had on December 9 struck down Special Backward Classes reservation given to Gujjars and five other communities of the state as the special reservation exceeded the permissible limit of 50 per cent.
