Cold wave continues as showers, snow lash Himachal

Heavy snowfall resulted in sharp decline in day temperature in the tourist resorts of Dalhousie, Narkanda, Sarahan and the adjoining areas, the Met office said.

According to its report, Dhauladhar ranges received moderate to heavy snowfall, causing sharp fall in mercury.

Kaylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahual and Spiti and Kinnaur districts recorded night temperatures of minus 4.1 and minus 3.6 degrees, while tourist resort of Manali shivered at minus 0.8 degrees Celsius.

Shimla recorded a minimum of at 2.5 degrees, two notches below normal, while Solan and Mandi recorded a low of 3.1 degrees, followed by Dharamsala (5.1 degrees) and Bhuntar (5.5 degrees).

Sundernagar and Palampur recorded minimums of 6.5 degrees Celsius.

The day temperatures remained steady, as Una and Nahan recorded the maximum temperature of 18.2 degrees, while Dharamsala recorded a high of 16.4 degrees, followed by Solan 15.0 degrees, Sundernagar 13.5 degrees, Bhunter 11.5 degrees, Shimla 9.4 degrees and Kalpa 2.0 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperatures went up marginally due to overcast conditions.

Dharamsala recorded 15 mm of rains, followed by Tissa 10 mm, Guler and palampur 8 mm each, Sujanpur Tira 7 mm, Gagal 8 mm and Nurpur 5 mm.

The local MeT office has predicted more rains and snow in the mid and higher hills of the region during next 48 hours.
