Collapse:Buildings contractor,VUDA officials booked for

A day after eleven people were killed in the collapse of two buildings here, police today sought to attribute the cause to inferior quality of material used in construction and filed an FIR against contractor and officials of Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
"We registered FIR against the contractor of buildings, (apart from) engineers, officials and employees concerned of VUDA under sections 304, 308 and 114 of IPC," said Police Inspector Bhanupratap Parmar.
The FIR was filed by the Gujarat government.
While section 304 specifies punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, section 308 with the attempt to commit culpable homicide and section 114 on the presence of abettor when the offence is committed.

When asked about the number of officials and employees of VUDA booked and their names, Parmar said that will come to know during investigations.
Eleven people lost their life when the two 11-year-old three-storey buildings caved in in Madhavnagar locality of Atladara area in the wee hours yesterday.

Parmar said the relief and rescue operation concluded last night and the debris removed from the spot.
Gujarat government-promoted Vadodara Development Authority (VUDA) had constructed the buildings under a housing scheme for economically weaker sections.
Residents of the colony where the blocks were located had blamed poor quality of the construction for the incident.

Incidentally, the residents on Tuesday had requested VUDA officials to repair these building whose foundation they claimed had become "weak".
According to residents, they had complained to VUDA about many cracks developed on the walls of the buildings but the authorities concerned failed to act.
