Community radio, volunteers helping admission aspirants at DU

Delhi University admissions that began May 22 have nudged volunteers into action in helping aspirants with the nitty-gritties of the admission process.
Despite the university's 10-day 'Open Days' drawing large crowds to the DU North Campus, there has been a section of parents and students who are depending on other initiatives taken up by present students of the varsity.
Delhi University Community Radio (DUCR) available on frequency 90.4 MHz in 13 km radius, for instance, has been taking queries from callers during their shows 'DU Ki HulChul' and 'Admission Express', which was also broadcast on Facebook Live.
"This is the first time we have taken our shows to Facebook to cater to those online audience," said Anil Kumar, pursuing MA life-long learning and extension, one of the correspondents handling the programme.

Deepak Kumar of MA Political Science from Kirori Mal College is the second correspondent to handle the programmes.
While 'DU Ki HulChul' guides students with admission dates, cut-offs and filling online forms between 10.30 and 11 AM, 'Admission Express' helps them with information on DU affiliated colleges between 2 and 2.30 pm.

The DUCR also takes queries on its e-mail - ducrofficial@gmail.Com.
DUSU, which is protesting against online entrance to PG courses, has assured to set up help desks, distribute bulletins apart from making presence on social media sites to help the students.
"We are busy with the strike, however once the board results are announced, a section of DUSU and ABVP members will set up helpdesk, distribute information bulletin and hold live on Facebook to educate the students," said a DUSU member.

Teachers who are already answering queries on phone calls, are now equipping themselves to answer a variety of queries that students throw during admission process once the cut-offs are announced.
"Soon after the admissions dates were announced we started getting a lot of phone calls from friends and through references. We also help the students during the admission process," said Abha Dev Habib, Assistant Professor at Miranda House and a former DU EC member.
On the fourth day today since the online registration process for undergraduate courses began, a total of 75,298 students have been registered for 54,000 seats in several DU affiliated colleges.
